Sarah Wins English Girls Championship
Sarah Tyson of Redlibbetts GolfSarah Tyson of Redlibbetts Golf Club, Kent won the English Girls Championship held at Durham City recently. The 17 year old scratch player defeated Cheshire’s Charlotte Wild in the final, having played outstanding golf throughout the championship.
Seeded third from the strokeplay qualifying stages with a 4 over par total of 148, Sarah went on to dominate her matches, never being taken past the sixteenth, securing the championship with a 6&5 victory in a hard fought final.
In her first visit to the region Sarah could not offer enough praise for the welcome all the competitors had received. After lifting the trophy Sarah said ‘The course was brilliant! The members of Durham City are friendly and warm and they could not have done more to look after the golfers. I am a fan of the north east now.’ Competitors and officials alike echoed Sarah’s praise for the club and its members.
The club has received so many compliments about the course, clubhouse and the contribution its members and staff made to the championship. Letters of thanks from County Captains, competitors, their parents and the English Women’s Golf Association have not ceased. Our thanks go to all those who gave up their time and whose energy and enthusiasm made the first national championship held at Durham City a great success.
