Top Of The League
DCGC NDU League Winning Team 2007The club team has won the 2007 North Durham Union Division One Championship. An outstanding undefeated run of 9 matches from the mid season point meant Durham City climbed from being last place early in the year to dominate the closing few weeks from pole position. A 9-5 victory in their final match at home to Consett, the last team to beat Durham this season, comfortably secured the title for the third time in 5 years.
Club Captain, Gerry Jones said ‘The turning point of our season had to be victory away to South Moor. It gave us a huge psychological boost beating the reigning champions around their own track.’
Throughout the season many games are close fought affairs but with a record of played 16, won 12, halved 1, lost 3, Durham undoubtedly deserved to win the coveted league title. Gerry continued ‘With their fighting spirit and superb team camaraderie the players are a true credit to their club. My heartfelt thanks go to them and all the caddies and supporters who have turned out in all weathers this year.’
Durham City will now represent the NDU alongside the winners of the Hadrian, Newcastle and District, Teesside Union and North Northumberland leagues in the Dixon Cup to be held at Foxton Hall (Alnmouth) later in the year.
