32 Years in the Waiting
You may be aware that the club team last won the North Durham Union (NDU) League title back in 1971 when we were still at the Mount Oswald course. Well, after a 32 year wait and after finishing runners-up in the NDU First Division in 2000, 2001 & 2002 they have finally won it.
Durham clinched the title by 2 points with a final match home win of 11-3 against Houghton le Spring. With celebrations unmatched since the heady days of Mount Oswald, club chairman Tony Nicholls declared a 'free bar' to reward the achievements and efforts of all the team members, caddies and supporters.
Inspirational Club Captain Bob Cass for once was lost for words. 'For one of the first times in my life I'm speechless by the way. But just let me say how proud I am of the boys who week in week out give their all for the club and represent us in such a magnificent way'. Those of you who know Bob knew he would never really be lost for words.
For Vice-Captain, Malcolm Hind and team manager, Ian Wilson, the achievements of 2003 will be a tough act to follow. However if this young squad show the same commitment, desire, effort and dedication who knows what they can achieve over the coming years.

History Repeats Itself - NDU Team Retain Title
After a long wait of 32 years to win the North Durham Union title Durham City have now made it two in a row. A magnificent 10-4 away victory at Beamish Park meant that Durham City retained the NDU title. Going into the last match knowing that 9 points would clinch the title against a team fighting to retain their First Division status was a big ask.
Captain Malcolm Hind said 'I always believed my lads were going to retain the title but it's a long season. The result tonight showed tremendous character. That's just one of the many reasons why they are winners. Consett have pushed us all the way and with them winning 14-0 tonight they have done everything they possibly could. But these Durham lads play with such a spirit and determination. To retain the championship is just fantastic and I'm very proud to be captain when they did it!'
After the celebrations, Team Manager, Ian Wilson announced that he would be stepping down from the position allowing someone else to take charge next year. Given his strike rate of 2 championship titles in the last 2 years, his successor has a big task ahead.
