English Girls Close Championship 2008

English Girls Close Championship 2008

Information for club members. The English Girls Close Championship will take place at Durham City Golf Club from Monday 28th July to Saturday 2nd August 2008.
During the week of the Championship the course will be closed until 5.45pm each evening with the exception of the Saturday when the course will re-open at 11am. Although this is beyond the times stated in the fixture book it does allow the greens staff time to prepare the course for the next day’s play.

Captain v Secretary, The Season Opener

With the dawning of British Summer Time brings hope of warmer weather, lighter nights and the start of new golf season. At Durham City this always commences with the Captain v Secretary match played to decide who wins the Battered Tankard and the Sodit trophy. This year’s match was particularly well supported with the participants enjoying fine sunshine and a course in excellent condition so early in the year.

Clubhouse Refurbishment - February 2008

Clubhouse Refurbishment Progresses

The second stage of the clubhouse refurbishment commenced in mid February 2008. Completion of the work is expected before the Easter holiday and the start of the new golf season. The complete overhaul and refit of the bar and restaurant areas will compliment the recent extension and improvements to the clubhouse entrance, accessibility and men’s changing areas.

HMS Ark Royal

When the boat came in

Durham City GC had the honour of hosting a match against crewmembers of HMS Ark Royal recently when the ship returned again to the Tyne, the river it was built on thirty years ago. The Fleet Flagship came alongside at North Shields in February after exercises in the North Sea and before heading off to Norfolk, Virginia via Norway.
